psl; two labradoodles in a van

[It's been a long six months since they sent the Reverse Flash through the portal, since Eddie'd tried to be the hero by shooting himself so his descendant couldn't screw up...basically everything, and Barry had saved him at the last moment. Disaster averted by The Flash, yet again.

It had taken a while to recover from that.

But he has, mostly, and he's back on detail with Team Flash, in a van in the middle of the night, staring at the outside of Iris' work waiting for Dr. Light to show up and try to kill Linda Park. With Jay Garrick. Who he doesn't know very well at all, because he's always been in with the scientists, the smart people, planning things that Eddie's not really part of. Lifting his coffee cup for a sip of his unsweetened latte, he exhales heavily and sighs, resting his chin in his hand and staring at the paper before glancing over at Jay.]

Nothing yet?

[Another sip of his latte.]

So, tell me more about Earth 2.

( "in with the scientists" is accurate, but also the exact thing that's about to drive him stir-crazy. jay isn't used to feeling so...un-useful. identifying and stabilizing the tears between their two worlds is no doubt important, but he misses the satisfaction of having an instant, substantial difference on the world around him.

that nostalgic need for quick gratification has lead him to whatever this is. crammed in to a star labs van (painfully obvious, now that he thinks about it) with a guy he barely knows in an attempt to do... well, anything, really. talk down dr. light, he supposes. she's a criminal, but a reasonable woman, and a perfect supposedly-not-dangerous target for him to pursue in his current state.

all bark and no bite now, after all.

the saying running through his mind is enough to make him flinch, and he quickly turns his attention towards eddie to avoid that line of thinking altogether. )

Nothing yet. ( jay has a coffee of his own, currently sitting untouched while he anxiously flips a tiny plastic stirrer between his fingers.

home is a relatively safe topic. he can swing that one... )
It's... different. ( oh, no shit. he shrugs. ) We seem to be a little more advanced in our sciences and technology, and our aesthetics are different. Cars, cameras... things like that, they look more streamlined here. Clothing is another thing.

( not that everybody ran around in multicolor foil space suits or anything. they had that 1950's sort of vibe going on, though. earth-1 inhabitants could sometimes look sloppy in comparison. ) And I'm guessing you haven't had the War of the Americas. Cisco gave me one of those looks when I mentioned that.

Something like that. I've seen some things that look more like home, and it seems to be called "vintage" here. ( then he hums thoughtfully- yeah, he figured as much as far as the war goes. it's weird, being in a place that's so similar and yet missing such a defining chunk of history. ) You're right, though. A war like that would be hard to miss even if history isn't your favorite subject.

( the way eddie's downing coffee like he runs on it doesn't go unnoticed, and jay almost laughs when he catches him taking another drink of it out of the corner of his eye. ) Should I be cutting you off? ( he motions towards eddie's nearly empty cup with the stick in his hand and a nod of his head. ) That's one way to attempt to give yourself super speed, I guess, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. Good show of initiative, though.

( the jetsons.

the jetsons, eddie??

actually, yeah, kind of like the jetsons... that's probably the closest either of them will be able to come up with, so it works. still, he can't help but mumble: )
Well, I wouldn't call it old...

( except it totally is. god, as if he needs to feel any more like a dusty, obsolete relic. it's not eddie's fault, though.

it will be eddie's fault, however, if he catches himself up in the be-all-end-all of nerd debates. the potential for lengthy discussions pertaining to the advantages and disadvantages to each type of ability is right there, and jay would normally be more than happy to point out possible disasters relating to temperature, vibrations, and magnets when it comes to having a metal body, but something in eddie's tone gives him pause. this isn't about eddie's favorite and least favorite powers, is it.

he keeps it simple instead, prying gently in to business that's totally not even his. if he's going to sit in a van with the guy, he might as well pick his brain. )
Is it more you?
